Who knew that embarrassing yourself in front of a camera could be so rewarding?
For outgoing 18-year-old Brian Fuller of Lake Villa, it paid off after committing to a dare by his father to participate in a lip-syncing contest held by Nokia at Navy Pier in Chicago.
Fuller, who "will not back down from a dare," proceeded to perform in front of a camera and did what looked like the robot to Diddy featuring Keyshia Cole "Last Night."
The video was uploaded onto Nokia's Web site for judging by the general public and was voted as one of the best videos and as the best lip-syncer in Chicago.
Fuller was one of 25 contest winners that received the opportunity to be part of the filming of a video for the musical group, Panic! At the Disco. The band's video, "The Green Gentleman," will premiere on Nokiausa.com this spring.
During the three days he was in California, Fuller briefly met Panic! At the Disco in the hub of screaming fans and filmed his portion of the video, which took six hours to film. In the video, he and the other 24 grand-prize winners were featured as part of "a magic show audience," said Fuller. "It was a good experience," he said. "I never thought that much work went into it."
Fuller, a senior at Lakes Community High School, said the experience helped motivate him to pursue a career in movie or video production when he goes to college.
Nokia also toured Philadelphia, Boston, Baltimore, Miami, San Diego, Dallas, Houston, Seattle and Phoenix in search of -- not singing talent -- "but of whoever dreams of being the next singing sensation!"
Let me just say how excited I am that he has had the experience and it helped him think about his future. Prior to this, he had wanted to "do something with psychology". Let's hear it for MOVIE MAKER!!! or PRODUCER!!!!
Way to go BJ.
