Because Mr. Bob said so....

It's certainly a challenge balancing being a Mom (or Dad) and working isnt it? Recently, Danielle attended an after work function with me. My company's owner was there, as well as the man I directly report to, our Chief Operations Officer or....Mr. Bob as I make Danielle call him. Having worked for him for almost 13 years now, he knows me and my family pretty well. He is actually pretty good with kids as well. So he spent some time talking with Danielle.

I havent mentioned yet that we were at an Ice Skating Show watching two of our employees that were skating (nothing huge, just a community skating show)...THIS becomes the most important fact in the story. Danielle is of course mesmerized by the costumes and the music...did i mention the theme was "Skaters in Space"?

I look over at my daughter who is smiling and having a great time....clapping and oohhhing and ahhhing with the crowd and of course....Mr. Bob.

On the way to the skate show, I had spent some time explaining to Danielle what a boss is. I told her that it was the person at Mommy's work that makes sure Mommy is doing a good job and can tell me what other things to do. She said "you mean like a Mommy?" Hmmmmm "Well yes. I do what Mr Bob tells me to do just like you do what Mommy tells you to do" . And we leave it at that.

At the intermission, Danielle and my boss have something to tell me. It goes something like this...Mr. Bob says "Danielle is really enjoying watching those little girls out there skate". Danielle says "Yes Mommy...it looks like fun. Mr Bob said that you are going to sign me up for skating lessons. He said he is going to tell you to do it because you have to do what he says because he is your boss."

So, for a week now, multiple times per day....all i hear is "Mommy, when do skating lessons start. Mr Bob wants you to take me to skate." I hear it over and over again.

Yesterday, one week from the date of the Skaters in Space show, Danielle is signed up for a learn to skate class beginning on June 4th. Want to hear the BEST part? Its a Parent Tot class....yes....Mommy with her bad ankles and her bad back gets to fall on the cold, hard ice too. Because, Mr. Bob said so.

Come recital or final presentation time Mr. Bob should get a personal call/and note of invitation from Danielle asking/begging for his appearance at such presentation. It would be even better if tickets had to be purchased for the event. Mr. Bob could be made aware that a large block of tickets has been reserved in his name for the skate. Danielle could also tell Mr.Bob that her Busia said that from what she(Busia) has seen of recitals/presentations in IL flowers or little gifts are usually brought for the performers with more flowers or larger, expensive gifts for the mommies.

If this seems too mean or presumptuous(especially the gifting part)- another option would be to have the mommy take a few days off after each class to recover from possible muscle strains or pulls- some for the mommy and some for Danielle.

How does one boldface "her Busia said" so?

Hope family gets to come to the recital....

To be honest, I thought the Danielle and the boss talking was going in a much different direction. I guess not all people talk about their boss at home like I do!

Bring those skates to Lakeside Cabins. You never know... it's Michigan. That lake very well may freeze over.
