I used to think there was no better way to listen to the fight song than to hear the marching band play it live....I was wrong. This morning while my daughter was coloring, I noticed she was humming to a familiar tune.
Looks like another one got hooked this year.

Now teach her the words please and it will really be thrilling.
She does know the words...for the most part...She has the HAIL parts down....

Zachary asks to sing "the Michigan song" every night before bed. He doesn't have the words (although he tries very hard to say "valiant" and "conquering"), but he shouts a mean "GO BLUE" at the end every time!

Our next generation of fans(yes, apparently we are passing the torch of fan-dom on to them) have big shoes to fill (Chester's, Norman's, Dan's, Richard's for starters) but they seem to be doing it just fine. Do wonder though how Zoe and the twins will get the grill there. Will Danielle and /or Rebecca be able to handle the mustard, ketchup, pickle, onions? Will Emily and Zach dispense the tickets and organize the walk? Will they remember the hot dogs and the cheese and crackers? Will all of them remember to pick up the respective elders along the way? Who will make the helmet calls to cousins Derek and Brianna? Who will take the first sip if Absopure? Will they stop at the brick and salute their predecessors? Of course they will. Our kids are teaching their kids all the FAMILY TRADITIONS. So hum and "HAIL" along with Danielle or sing a resounding "GO BLUE!" with Zach this weekend. Life is good.

Well there's a fine teary start to my Wednesday morning. What a thought for Zoe, the Twins, Danielle, Becca, Emily, Zach, Derek and Brianna to be doing these parts in the future.
And here's to a whole bunch of "Hails" and "Go Blues" this weekend!
NOW IF WE COULD SOMEHOW TEACH THEM TO HANDLE THE DISAPPOINTMENTS EACH YEAR SEEMS TO BRING...AND DEFINITELY BETTER THAN THE ELDER STATESMEN HANDLE THEM. ALL IN ALL, I THINK THE FUTURE BODES WELL FOR THE ILLINI/TEXAS/MICH CROWD.
